The power and feeling of his music is what makes Beethoven one of my favorite composers. In the painting I wanted to transmit what his music is, that is an expression of his being which is still with us every time his music is heard. Using the original portrait to get his likeness I wanted to use the layers of paint and the way the paint is applied to get a more energetic portrait of Beethoven.
I also made the frame from reclaimed wood, it is a bit unusual but I think it adds to the painting. I can however remove it if it does not work with your decoration.
